Calling all realtors! The East Downtown Management District is hosting a reception and neighborhood tour of various homes for area real estate agents on May 25th from 3 to 5:30 PM. The Houston Chapter of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) has announced the winners of its 2011 Development of Distinction Awards and Capitol Oaks in EaDo made the cut! The "ECO-HIP" Lovett/InTownHomes project on Nagle at McKinney won the "for profit" category of a larger group of developments cited for their positive impact on their surroundings and their larger communities. The ULI is a nonprofit education and research institute supported by its members. The Sister Cities of Houston’s Memorandum of Understanding, or "MOU," has been signed by The City of Houston and the plans for the Sister Cities Promenade in EaDo are moving forward! The MOU states, "The City support’s Sister Cities Houston’s development of a Promenade along the Bastrop Right of Way area, and to encourage and aid SCH’s fundraising, and to establish a framework for the development of the Promenade." Aerosol Warfare Gallery – GONZO247, locally renowned artist, veteran graffiti artist, documentary-maker, collaborator & all-around EaDo supporter, will present his most recent show, PERPLEXED, on Saturday, May 21st, 2011 at Aerosol Warfare Gallery. PERPLEXED includes work using a combination of plexiglass/plastic acrylic as the canvas, spray paint and other mixed media demonstrating the challenge of thought, preparation and painting visions backwards. PERPLEXED displays ample insight by GONZO247, born of energy obtained from his recent travels to Africa, his non-stop action in Houston and moments in life as a full time artist. The Opening Reception will also include a slideshow of GONZO's most recent trip to Africa, recent projects and more. – Thiem Hung has an exciting program called the "TH Factor" that rewards students of all ages for good grades! Here’s how it works: students enrolled in school from Kindergarten through the college level who make all A’s for a six-week period or semester (depending on grade level) are encouraged to bring in their report cards or transcripts. Thiem Hung will reward all-A students with a free sandwich combo meal, which includes either a small or large sandwich, one spring roll, and any drink.
