As the school year comes to an end, Houston Independent School District (HISD) begins its transition of summer food distribution. Beginning June 1, HISD families will be given student meals twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. Each student will receive up to seven box meals both days, each containing a days’ worth of food. Sixty-eight locations are designated pickup spots and can be found online.
The HISD Superintendent Scholars Award usually takes place at school which wasn’t a possibility this year. HISD Interim Superintendent, Dr. Grenita Lathan, took it upon herself to celebrate this year’s winners by surprising the 10 high school seniors at their homes with their $5000 scholarship checks. You can read more about this joyous occasion on ABC13’s website.
