It’s officially the time of year when people decide to revamp their workout plans. With the summer sun bearing down on Houston and trips to every body of water in sight, it’s natural to feel the urge to get back into a good fitness routine.

And while there’s no such thing as a “quick fix” when it comes to your health, EaDo Fitness at 2955 Gulf Freeway can help establish a routine that works for you. Though the facility originally started with CrossFit, it now offers programs incorporating many types of exercise, including High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts, bootcamps, and yoga.

We spoke with manager and coach Lisa Evetts to find out how EaDo Fitness whips people into shape, but more importantly, how it encourages camaraderie among its devotees.

EDMD: It’s easy to be intimidated by a gym if you aren’t sure you’ll fit in. What kind of people would you say work out at EaDo fitness?

Lisa: We have a mix of people who have been college athletes or have done CrossFit somewhere and want a competitive experience and atmosphere, and want to work out with like-minded people. But we also have people who haven’t worked out at all or haven’t worked out in 15 years that want to get back into it, and everyone in between. That’s a big reason we offer lots of programs to help you get started the way that works best for your abilities.

What kind of programs would you recommend to someone just getting into working out, or getting back into it?

Our six-week group beginner’s program would be a good option. It teaches you the fundamentals so when you go into the classes you feel more comfortable, and includes nutrition information and yoga as well. We also offer personal training, which people like because of the one-on-one attention. So it depends on what works for people; some like a group and others like personal training.

Once you finish a program, you can sign up for a regular membership for ongoing workouts.

*Note: the next six-week program starts June 10.

What else should people know about EaDo Fitness?

We’ve remodeled in the last couple of years and have a lot of new equipment. We get great reviews for how clean the gym is, and management is always trying to improve the gym for the better. It’s so easy to get here from Downtown, and with lots of parking and class options, even people that moved away from the EaDo area come because they like it and the community so much.
